Modern Fossils is excited to announce that we will be creating environmental art during The Sloatsburg Plein Air Art Event on Sunday May 16th in Sloatsburg, NY! Come see the fascinating process of how Modern Fossils are made!

We will be joining over 40 Plein Air Artists in 17 locations throughout the Village and along the Ramapo River. Come watch, from 10am - 5pm, as we begin our artwork, inspired by the beauty of our surroundings!

All finished artworks will be displayed, (and eligible to win a cash prize) at the juried show/reception on June 19th from 2-4pm. Mark your calendars! More information about that day will follow.

Sloatsburg is nestled in the Hudson Valley in New York, which has a rich history for artists and specifically Plein Air Artists. Sloatsburg has its own historical claim to plein air work, which harkens back to a rich 19th and 20th century legacy of important artists who lived and worked in Sloatsburg including famed Hudson River School Painter Jasper Cropsey and the prolific designer, painter, ceramicist Edith Varian Cockcroft who had her home and studio overlooking Sloats Pond/Dam.

Plein Air Sloatsburg Art Event is NOT only for painters – many different types of artists will be participating. To encourage non-painters to participate they have created a Prize Category ‘Most Innovative’.
